Affiliate marketers are sometimes seen as shady, untrustworthy marketers, but I have found that untrue. They’re actually some of the most creative marketers because they tend to just make things happen by doing anything it takes to get the job done. Learning how to do affiliate marketing is just one piece of the puzzle. If you’re trying to grow a startup and you start an affiliate program, you’ll need to learn the ins and outs of managing an affiliate program.
Rather than put in a half-hearted effort I wanted to be genuine and recommend something I knew was good, which I had used myself, from someone I respected and wasn’t too expensive (I didn’t think my readers had a lot of money at the time). I wrote my blog post, talked about how good the product was, used a little bit of scarcity because I thought the product offer was due to finish at the end of the month (turns out it wasn’t), published the article and then went to bed.

Shopify is a very popular site building platform for people interested in building eCommerce stores. It has been around for the past few years and seen significant growth in its user base over this time. You can earn a staggering 200% per sale for every new customer you refer to them, which means that there is up to $2400 per new customer on offer.

Affiliate Referrals. Expand your network by incentivizing current affiliates to recruit new ones. With Tapfiliate, the incentive is a percentage of the commission that each new affiliate earns. If that’s still too big a commitment for you, you can always rent out rooms in your house on a temporary basis to vacationers. House-sharing services, such as Airbnb and HomeAway, let you offer up a room in your house – or your whole house at a time when you’re away – to travelers who need a place to stay. However, you have to check with your local government first to make sure it’s legal, since some cities have zoning laws or administrative codes that either ban this kind of short-term rental or put major limits on it. Depending on where you live, you may need to get a permit or business license, have your property inspected, and collect and pay local taxes.
4. Leave your mark socially. If your business isn’t on any social networking websites, then, well, you're living under a rock. Facebook, Twitter, StumbleUpon, Digg, and many other sites are the key to reaching your target audience and engaging them in insightful ways. Additionally, while you may have a social media presence, you may not be using it to its full potential.
Now that you’ve chosen your market, find a way to start sharing your message, whether it’s a blog or podcast or Youtube channel, or whatever platform makes the most sense for your target market. Flynn says this is where you’ll start to build a fan base — and collect subscriber emails. You don’t need to get the whole world to follow you to make this work out financially. Wired cofounder Kevin Kelly wrote an article about 1,000 True Fans, which basically says that if you have 1,000 people paying you $100 a year, that’s a $100,000 a year. “You don’t need to serve everybody,”  says Flynn.
As you may have noticed, the above list is merely alphabetical. Keep also in mind that many of the above are significantly broader than a pure “affiliate network”. Some of them provide true all-in-one solutions that empower software vendors with everything needed to sell their product online (from online interfaces to payment processing, and much more).

The name says it all. Email marketing is simply the process of reaching out to your customers via email. They provide a marketplace where your affiliate program will be advertised to other affiliate marketers. They also provide the tracking software for your affiliates so you don’t have to build your own tracking system. In some ways this is better because it takes care of the trust issues. Affiliates are always suspicious of whether or not they’re getting credited for the sales they generate. By having an intermediary take care of transaction tracking and payments, the fear of being cheated is alleviated.
