Some of the essentials of SEO include maintaining a healthy word count, adjusting page titles and meta descriptions so they don’t get cut off in search results, helpful internal and external links and a well-chosen keyword or phrase. If you configure for the wrong keyword, you could still gain some traffic, but from viewers who aren’t interested in your product or service. One of the foundations of inbound marketing is to get traffic from the right audience. Keyword.io and Google analytics are free online tools you can use to check the interest in different keywords.
Unfortunately, they still do have a dormant account fee, but at least now if you drop your payment threshold to $10, that is the most you would lose for any given sale: Accounts with a positive balance but no earnings for an extended period of time are considered dormant. Dormant accounts are subject to a charge of $1 per pay period after 90 days of no earnings, $5 per pay period after 180 days of no earnings, and $50 per pay period after 365 days of no earnings. Dormant account fees are only assessed on accounts with a positive balance.
Let no one tell you that email marketing is dead. An email list is crucial for every affiliate marketer. You can start building up your email list with a lead magnet (like the information products mentioned previously) or even just by encouraging your audience to sign up for your updates. You can then push your content to this audience via email and also direct them to your affiliate offers. Don't be sleazy about the sales, but if you build up enough trust with your email audience; when the time comes, they will not mind purchasing a product from you.
Great overall look at the current state of things. Was a little surprised to see a “possibly sleazy” mention for CJ, but NOT Clickbank… there are TONS of fairly sleazy products on Clickbank from my last look compared to CJ. Commissions are super high on CB (digital/info) products, of course, but the quality on offer there can be far lower than most items on CJ and others.
When describing whatever it is your promoting, share your experience! If you can throw in some data or graphs to go along with it, even better. Back when I was more actively writing about eHow, I promoted an ebook that I read which helped quadruple my earnings per article. I created a graph that showed how much I earned before I read the book versus how much I earned after. To this date, that ebook has been one of the most successful affiliate promotions I’ve done on this blog.

So it’s awesome to hear you’re out there promoting other programs. When it comes to those in-house programs, I absolutely agree. One reason I think they’re incredibly lucrative is just the flexibility that you have with them. You’ll usually be dealing with decision makers that can make special changes to their funnel to meet your website needs even better. I’ve known affiliates that have even helped these in-house programs with their CRO to get better conversions. Definitely not the kind of access you’re going to get with the Amazon Associates program
