Once you have your own strategy, you should let other departments in the company know so that they can coordinate their actions with yours. If you want to create a successful marketing mix, you need to stop seeing each approach as an isolated case. If you consider channels as independent disciplines, without thinking about the marketing mix, then you could face some problems. For example, you could end up circulating duplicate content or, even worse, distributing content on different channels that contradicts each other.

How to Monetize: Affiliate marketing works well when you discuss products on your blog. For our fish tank blog, we would link to all the things you need to buy for an aquarium and then when people click on that link and buy that item (and other items they purchase with it with some exceptions) you get a percentage of the purchase. Amazon Associates is the best-known affiliate marketing program, but there are others like Impact Radius, ShareASale, Commission Junction, ClickBank and Rakuten too.

The easiest thing to do is to sign up for an affiliate marketing network like Commission Junction. They provide a marketplace where your affiliate program will be advertised to other affiliate marketers. They also provide the tracking software for your affiliates so you don’t have to build your own tracking system. In some ways this is better because it takes care of the trust issues. Affiliates are always suspicious of whether or not they’re getting credited for the sales they generate. By having an intermediary take care of transaction tracking and payments, the fear of being cheated is alleviated.
4. Leave your mark socially. If your business isn’t on any social networking websites, then, well, you're living under a rock. Facebook, Twitter, StumbleUpon, Digg, and many other sites are the key to reaching your target audience and engaging them in insightful ways. Additionally, while you may have a social media presence, you may not be using it to its full potential.
After more than a decade experience with the commercial web, you’d think major marketers would consider the web more than an afterthought. However, evidence reveals many consumer marketers still can’t distinguish between a website, an ad or a brochure. While retailers like Wal-Mart, Lowes, Nordstrom and Circuit City get it, there are others that still seem confused. When clothing retailer Gap
Search engine marketing (SEM) is one of today’s most important online marketing channels. But what exactly is search engine marketing? And how do its subcomponents SEO and SEA vary from one another? By adhering to fundamental marketing measures for web searches, website operators are able to optimize strategic aspects of their websites, thereby gaining more visitors and enhancing their web...
ShareASale is another larger affiliate network that has more than 4000 merchants listed where a thousand of them are exclusive to ShareAsale. With these payments, it is possible for you to access a campaign and let you know where to put more efforts on.
The “Fulfilled by Amazon” program is another really popular passive income idea that’s being promoted a lot in 2017. Basically, you create a physical product (or buy one in bulk from China) and have it shipped directly to Amazon. Amazon then lists it on their website, sell it and deliver it. They obviously take a decent cut but they’re doing most of the intensive work.
Hey there, I’m Mahesh (@maheshone). I started learning and doing and experimenting web 2.0 stuff back in 2004 and eventually became a full-time computer nerd after graduation. Minterest is a digital marketing and technology journal that I founded in 2007 to feed my super curiosity (oh yeah, I’m a solo-blogger). I write about tech, marketing, and everything in between that excites me. And I love to work with small businesses to help them get the most out of the web. Outside of that, I'm equally passionate about the financial markets and I also spend a lot of time doing random things (see random facts about me). Say hi: @maheshone. Read More »
I have a Plumbing and Heating service company. I see some Plumbing and heating parts and supply retailers online that seem to be the same supplier with different website names. Is this an affiliate self branding thing? I want to find a company to send customers to from my website to buy parts from for a commission as well as order/buy parts for my own service business from. I cannot seem to find any of these affiliate parts supplier companies with search engine queries. Years ago I remember seeing companies that would do the warehousing, stocking and shipping of items… Read more »
Regardless of the fact that some research may make it appear as if software isn’t an area in which traditional affiliate networks are particularly strong, one may get surprised by how many top software brands run their affiliate programs on the CJs and ShareASales of the world. Additionally, there is also a number of highly specialist affiliate networks with primary focus on software of all types and kinds: from business-to-consumer (B2C) to business-to-business (B2B) software, and from downloadable to that which is offered on software-as-a-service (SaaS) basis. Finally, do not count on affiliate networks (whether traditional or specialist) only. There will be brands that do not belong to any network but run their own in-house based affiliate programs (either on their proprietary platforms, or on purchased/leased software). So, in your search for software affiliate programs you really want to look for them in three places: (i) traditional affiliate networks, (ii) software-specific networks, and (iii) in-house based affiliate programs.

Forgive the self-promotion, but I'll be speaking and participating in a roundtable at Crain's BtoB's NetMarketing Breakfast in Chicago this Thursday, October 6th. I've been strugling between two presentations, one regarding a significant study that breaks apart and measures each vehicle of marketing campaigns -- television, print, Internet, search engine marketing, radio spots, etc.; the other
When you recommend a user to any product (usually membership program or products which require recurring monthly payment), you earn a fixed commission when a referred user pays his next bill. Some of the companies offer a recurring commission for a fixed time (Let’s say one year) & many companies offer the same for a lifetime. It all depends upon company marketing policies.
This is really a great post, Yaro. Something I’ve really been contemplating lately is how I can monetize my blog but here’s the thing … one of the reasons I had started the blog in the first place was to be a lead generation source. To bring people to my over all business and products. Can monetizing the blog itself through some affiliates go hand in hand with lead gen or are the going to conflict with each other?
