While some people say the best strategy is to dive in head first and not look back, that’s not ideal when it comes to internet marketing. For optimal results, take it slow and learn how each moving part works from the bottom up. Once you have a firm foundation of understanding, you’ll be able to make smarter decisions and better investments for your business.
Merge Marketing With Accounting. Apart from giving you real-time reports on your marketing campaign’s effectivity and profitability, AffiliateWP also helps with accounting responsibilities. It provides detailed payout logs and even lets you export all your data to CSV file for forecasting, bookkeeping, and accounting purposes. Meaning, you can save time and energy on back-office duties because you won’t have to manually input your data in a different software.
When you recommend a user to any product (usually membership program or products which require recurring monthly payment), you earn a fixed commission when a referred user pays his next bill. Some of the companies offer a recurring commission for a fixed time (Let’s say one year) & many companies offer the same for a lifetime. It all depends upon company marketing policies.
I almost gave up on affiliate marketing when one firm I was working with told me I was not getting the big commissions anymore because they had ‘changed’ the payouts. Here I was marketing their Options system and then when it was time to collect, suddenly I was not qualified. I am not sure affiliate marketing is honest enough to pay those who worked to get the commission.

Insurance. Say you’re an insurance salesperson who has just sold a 10-year term life insurance policy. You earn a one-time commission for making the sale, but you also earn a percentage of the monthly premium every time the buyer pays it. So long as the insured keeps making those monthly payments, you can keep collecting residuals off that one sale for up to 10 years.

In June, he put ads on his site with Google Adsense, and within the first hour, earned $1.08 with three clicks. He earned $5 the first day, $7 the second, and then eventually began pulling in $15-$30 a day. In October, he created an ebook exam study guide priced at $19.99. By month’s end, he earned $7,906.55 — more than he had ever previously earned in a month.
Extra Money in Retirement. The vast majority of Americans aren’t putting aside enough money to support themselves comfortably in retirement. A survey by GoBankingRates found that more than half of all Americans have less than $10,000 set aside for retirement, and one in three have no retirement savings at all. If you’re in this position, you could one day find yourself with no income except for Social Security, which was never designed to be a family’s sole source of support – and which might have to cut its benefit levels still further before you reach retirement age. But if you do the work now to create a passive income stream, you’ll still have some money coming in (in addition to Social Security checks) after you retire.
One thing that I look for in an affiliate program is a good transparent analytics system. I want to be able to see the clicks and transactions, so that I can track my stats. Otherwise, I get a little nervous about the legitimacy of the program. Other things to look for is to see how transparent they are when answering questions and how the responsiveness of the affiliate manager.

Revenue sharing sites give you the opportunity to earn money online without having a website or a product to sell. If writing is your hobby, for example, then you can earn extra income by writing high quality articles and submit them to different locations on revenue sharing sites. I must admit I’ve never tried it, but I wanted to get it out as it can be a viable option to get started with.
What is a typical "sale cycle" like? Potential software buyers complete a registration form (on our website or yours) to request more information about a specific product or to download a whitepaper or other resource. Once we receive your referral we immediately start working to connect with this potential buyer. We are usually able to make recommendations (and generate revenue) in the same day, and almost always within the same week. We also employ "lead nurturing" in an effort to connect with buyers that are on a longer time frame.

Although this article has been written in 2007, now in Feb 2014, I still find it full of great advice and tips. What I learned from this article is that when writing a review I should focus on how this product helped me achieve X instead of simply repeating and enforcing the features and benefits of the product that can also be found on the sales page.
