Social media marketing and content marketing strategies doesn’t just happen by coincidence. Online marketing is a full-time job. Managing the company’s social media profile should not left to the intern, just as off page optimization should not be forgotten about until Friday afternoon. Implementing a marketing strategy, which also benefits the company, doesn’t happen automatically and is not a task that should be given to an amateur.
When it comes to online marketing basics, you can essentially break things down into four categories: search engines, content creation/distribution, social media and paid advertising. While your start-up’s clientele, products and services will dictate exactly how you should proceed, a solid online marketing strategy uses all of these efforts to a certain degree. Depending on the nature of your start-up, some strategies may be more lucrative than others.

I obviously think that a good price point and lifelong cookies are ideal, but I also think that the product has to be really valuable – really offer the person I’m sending something that they can use and will be happy with. I personally remember the people who point me to valuable products, and I trust them more for future products. It’s not just a matter of ethics (although that’s a big part of it) but it’s also a matter of future sales!
I just started out with Affiliate Marketing (idea # 8) and it is not as easy as people make out to be. For me, the hardest part so far, is learning Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and driving traffic to my website. I’m only 3 months into it, but I am confident that the site will begin to generate some incom., I have to give it 6-9 months, so we’ll see.
Another way to generate revenue from your writing or other creative work is to sell it through a membership site. With this type of site, visitors pay you a monthly fee to gain access to your content – articles, videos, lectures, courses, or whatever you think people are willing to pay for. Many subscription sites pair their paid content with some free content, which serves to hook new readers and convince them that the “premium” content is worth the cost of a monthly fee.
On Shopify, you can earn up to $2,000 per customer and the highest commissions on referrals. Simply sign up to this affiliate program and receive a special link to share on your blog or social media posts. For every customer that signs up to Shopify through your links, you’ll earn an income. Each time you refer someone to Shopify, you can earn 200 percent of a customer’s subscription fee.
Affiliate networks offer you access to multiple (and by multiple, we mean hundreds if not thousands) of individual affiliate programs. They basically work by simplifying the signup process - instead of applying to become an affiliate for a each product you want to promote, you simply apply to join the network and instantly have access to hundreds of different affiliate offers.
Alternatively, sites like CreateSpace can help you turn your work into a printed book, e-book, CD, or DVD and sell it online through your own e-store or through Amazon. However, this site also takes the lion’s share of the profits. For example, the site reports that if you have a black-and-white printed book, 184 pages long, and you set the sale price at $8.99, you get to keep only $2.34 for every copy you sell. If you set your sale price too low, you might not make any money on your sales at all – and if you set it too high, you might not actually sell any copies.
Like online ad sales, affiliate marketing deals don’t bring in much money unless your site gets a fair amount of traffic. In order to get people to click on your affiliate links, you have to put in the work required to build and maintain a site that attracts plenty of readers. For the best results, you should write posts specifically designed to call attention to the particular product you’re linking to, so people will have a good reason to click on it.
As shown in the graph, the top 20 affiliate categories are Fashion, Sports & Outdoors, Health / Wellness & Beauty, Travel, Home & Garden, Computers & Electronics, Education & Training, Business, Financial & Insurance, High-End & Luxury Stores, Entertainment, Malls & Department Stores, SaaS, Auto & Motor, Gifts & Flowers, Books & Magazines, Baby & Toddler, Vision Care, Jewelry, Art and Photography.
Be sure to check what kind of customer support you can expect from your affiliate program once you have signed up. Do your research online and if possible, speak to other sellers using the program to get their thoughts. Can you speak to someone via phone or Skype or do you have to wait 72 hours for email responses? Be clear on this because trust me, you will need support at one point or another.
Thanks for a nice job. I am currently promoting some of the affiliate programs listed here and making a few dollars from them. But I must say that making money from affiliate programs is not rocket science; it requires hard work and perseverance. Affiliate marketing keeps evolving daily and any serious affiliate should be ready to change tactics and invest time and money in order to beat the competition.

You don’t even have to physically visit the properties!

Some of the world’s best software brands run their affiliate marketing programs on traditional affiliate networks. Below you may find a list of such affiliate networks as well as select examples of respective software programs (picked based on their performance at the time of this post) found on these networks. There are many other software-related opportunities on each network, and it is a good idea to join these networks to browse the options for yourself (either as an affiliate looking to monetize your efforts, or as a brand doing your competitive intelligence). Whether you will find a good match or not, will depend on the type of technology or software that your target audience is interested in.
One problem with rewards apps is that it’s possible to get carried away and start shopping haphazardly just to get the rewards. It’s true that the more you shop, the more cash back you earn – but your earnings will never be as much as you’ve actually spent, or anywhere close to it. So to get the most out of these apps, only use them for things you would buy regardless.

Wow! What an awesome list! My favorite is the stock photography because I love photography. I have had some success there, particularly with one photo I make some decent income from. I think the key with stock photography is finding a shot that is high demand. Then, find a new unique way to frame that shot. This is the reason my St. Louis Arch photo is a top 10 on both ShutterStock and iStockPhoto. Thanks for the awesome ideas above!

Most entrepreneurs know that to be successful, a strong presence on the Web is essential. But internet marketing requires more than just establishing an attractive Web site, setting up a Facebook page and hoping for the best. No type of sales job can be considered truly passive. In fact, sales is more active than most jobs, since your pay often depends on how much you sell, and it takes plenty of hustle to bring new customers on board. However, if you’re already working in sales, or considering it as a career, it could be useful to focus on products that can bring in residual income in addition to the usual commission. That way, you can continue earning money on work you’ve already done.
