All these forms of ad revenue are technically passive, because you can earn them at any time while your website is up and running, not just during the times when you’re working on it. However, to make real money from ads, you need to build a successful website, and that takes time and effort. And even after your site has attracted a bunch of regular followers, you need to keep posting new content to keep them coming back. Technically, once you’ve created a successful site, you could hire someone else to manage it – but just like hiring a manager for your rental property, this cuts into your profits, and it could even cut them down to nothing.
But there are other people whose income is not tied to their daily grind – at least, not completely. That’s because they have sources of “passive income”: money that keeps rolling in even when they’re not on the job. This extra income can pay for a few added luxuries, provide a cash cushion for emergencies, and even serve as a stepping stone to financial independence.
Offer your visitors the chance to be one of your email subscribers. This is a good way for them to know what the products are all about. Sending out monthly emails to people will give them better ideas on what the products you are promoting are all about or if there are any new changes as well as new products coming in. Offer your subscribers some freebies, promos, discounts and the likes as incentive for signing up. Not only can you send out great information, it also keeps you in communication with your customers. This will give you better leverage in the future.
As I mentioned in a previous post on the 3 Types of Affiliate Marketing Explained, the way I earn money with affiliate links in ALL of my online businesses is by promoting only products that I have used, and only what I would recommend to my friends who want to achieve similar results. I feel that anyone with an audience has a responsibility to do the same thing.
If you have built up an email list, you could also promote your affiliate offers via email promotions. Just make sure you build up a relationship with your audience first instead of going for the hard sell straightaway. The emails you send out must contain your affiliate links to products so when your audience click through. the sale is attributed to you. 
Service Contracts. It is sometimes possible to earn residuals for products or services with pay-as-you-go contracts, such as home security services. If a client signs a contract to have his or her home monitored for a monthly fee, the salesperson can receive a residual payment each month the client pays for this service. Furthermore, agreements often pay monthly residuals to sales employees. For example, alarm companies selling ongoing home or business monitoring for a monthly fee may offer residual income to those who sell this service.
Flynn, who blogs at Smart Passive Income and discusses his secrets at the Smart Passive Income podcast, defines passive income as “building online businesses that take advantage of systems of automations that allow transactions, cash flow and growth without requiring a real-time presence. We don’t have to trade our time for money one to one. Instead, we invest our time upfront, creating valuable products and experiences for people, and we reap the benefits of that time invested later,” he says, adding, “It’s not easy. I just want to make sure that’s clear.”

It takes the “books I’m reading” area you often see in blogs (within Amazon affiliate links) to a whole new level. not only is this great for you, but it’s extremely helpful for your readers who may be looking for additional resources related to your niche. Plus, they may come across products or services they weren’t originally looking for while on your resources page.


And then there are those things called affiliate networks, which are also considered as good marketing tools. They basically make it simple for affiliates (publishers) to take part of the strategies that benefit their respective websites. These networks share their website resources that advertisers or merchants may employ in their advertising efforts. It’s a lot like a mutual relationship, with affiliates being to able to produce income by helping sellers broaden their customer reach through the affiliate network. These networks generate revenue two ways: through revenue sharing and fee for action. Affiliate networks are commonly used by publishers for free but may charge an initial fees or subsequent monthly charges. So don’t confuse affiliate networks with affiliate marketing software although some of these sites are often referred to as solutions.
Resist the temptation to make your content too product-centric.  The goal is to produce relevant information that benefits your readers, establishing you as a credible and valued source.  While you don’t want to overly sell your business or product in the content you create, it is important that all marketing pieces consistently reflect your brand.  Also, don’t miss the opportunity to include your company’s logo, Web site, and phone number on each piece you publish.
Let no one tell you that email marketing is dead. An email list is crucial for every affiliate marketer. You can start building up your email list with a lead magnet (like the information products mentioned previously) or even just by encouraging your audience to sign up for your updates. You can then push your content to this audience via email and also direct them to your affiliate offers. Don't be sleazy about the sales, but if you build up enough trust with your email audience; when the time comes, they will not mind purchasing a product from you. 
Selling T-shirts and other apparel is a pretty saturated market but the tools to do it are easy to use, which makes it very quick and cheap to get going. If you’re creative enough, or tap into the zeitgeist properly, you can also have a runaway hit. Even if your first 19 T-shirts don’t sell more than a few copies, your 20th might make up for everything.
